Steps To Changing a Flat Tire On Your Vehicle

Move Off the Road

You want to move your vehicle off the road as much as possible once you notice that you have a flat tire. It would be best if you didn't keep driving further than you have to; otherwise, you could end up damaging your wheel beyond repair. Make sure that you're safely away from traffic, so you can replace your tire without having to worry about getting hit by another vehicle.

Loosen the Lug Nuts

Before you jack your car up, make sure that you slightly loosen the lug nuts holding your wheel on. You don't want to remove them completely, but you'll have an easier time loosening them up while the vehicle is still on the ground.

Jack Up Your Car

Make sure your jack is situated in a safe spot on your vehicle's frame, and begin to jack up the vehicle slowly. You want to keep going until the flat tire is completely up off the ground. Make sure you leave some extra room. Once you put the new tire on, there will be a little more air in that one requiring the extra space.

How To Replace the Tire

Remove your old tire, and replace your flat with your spare tire. Some people find this to be the most challenging part of the process. You have to line up the holes on the wheel to the wheel studs on the hub. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern until it's flush with the wheel hub, and you can lower the vehicle back down carefully.

Finishing Up

Once your vehicle is on the ground, you should completely tighten the lug nuts, check them once more, and then you can clean up your items. Make sure that you take your flat tire with you, and you may be able to have it serviced at our service department. Contact us for more information.
