With the high saturation of versatile SUVs on the market, it may be challenging to find the right model for you. They offer excellent versatility, next-level safety, and desirable features throughout. Keep reading to find out how these vehicles stack up when they go head-to-head.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander vs. 2022 Toyota Highlander Performance

The Mitsubishi Outlander is built with a 181-horsepower 2.5-litre redeveloped four-cylinder direct-injection engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Outlander boasts a smooth, responsive, and powerful performance with its standard Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC), Mitsubishi's confident and powerful technology that adjusts the power to all four wheels with quick precision. The Outlander is also offered with six driving modes (Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Snow, Mud, and Gravel) for next-level control in any situation.

The Toyota Highlander has a 295-horsepower 3.5-litre V6 engine mated to an eight-speed direct-shift automatic transmission. 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander vs. 2022 Toyota Highlander Exterior & Interior

The all-new Mitsubishi Outlander has been redesigned for 2022. It boasts an unconventional design that will help it stand out on the road. It showcases a wide, muscular stance with sculpted sides and sleek lines with a distinctive front end showing its powerful new identity. Feature-wise, the exterior comes standard with automatic LED headlights, heated power side-view mirrors, rear privacy glass, a rear spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Premium trim levels can enjoy a hands-free power liftgate, a power panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

The Toyota Highlander's design isn't particularly noteworthy. It offers a basic body styling paired with an aggressive grille and front fascia. However, if you want to stand out on the road, the Highlander definitely won't do it for you. The Highlander comes standard with only the basics. You'd have to opt for the higher trim levels to take advantage of desirable features like roof rails, a power panoramic moonroof, LED fog lamps, LED daytime running lights, and 20-inch alloy wheels. A hands-free power liftgate is not available, and rain-sensing wipers are only available as add-ons for the highest trim level.

The Outlander and the Highlander boast a similar interior structure, with both having seven-passenger seating, a driver-centric design, and a split-folding rear seat. Where they start to differ is in the details and features. The Outlander's interior is stunning and luxurious, offering heated front and rear seats, quilted leather-appointed seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, tri-zone automatic climate control with Micron air filtration, a wireless smartphone charger, a 9.0-inch smartphone link display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, Navigation, SiriusXM, and more.

The Highlander's interior is not nearly as luxurious. Most of the outlined features available on mid- to high-tier trims for the Mitsubishi Outlander are unavailable or only provided on the highest trim level of the Toyota Highlander.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander vs. 2022 Toyota Highlander Safety

Both vehicles offer excellent safety features, but the Outlander comes out on top with its abundance of standard driver-assist features. Some standard amenities that the Outlander offers that the Highlander doesn't include a passenger-side knee airbag, front-seat centre airbags, a blind-spot warning system, and rear cross-path detection. Feel confidence in motion with the 2022 Outlander, boasting innovative standard safety and driver-assist features that the competition doesn't have.
